The Kaptein sauce uses lovely red jalapeno with its earthy and sweet flavour mixed with a mild to moderate spice level, as the main ingredient. Everyone knows green jalapenos but red jalapenos are just green ones left on the plant to ripen to a bright red colour. Red Jalapenos typically measure between 2,500 and 8,000 Scoville Heat Units on the Scoville Scale. Sweet piquanté peppers (Peppadews) are low on the Scoville Scale but add flavour and sweetness to this complex sauce.

We make all Bokbaard Brandsous Sauces from quality raw ingredients grown in South Africa. We use fresh peppers and chillies that are not dried. Instead of cooking the sauce, it is fermented and pickled to reach a pH level below 4. The natural preservation method makes it a safe and healthy condiment.

Bokbaard Brandsous Kaptein contains no sugar, no oil and no gluten and is vegetarian-friendly. Natural xanthan gum thickens, stabilizes and emulsifies the sauce.
