Ripstop Canvas

Description

Ripstop canvas fabric is an acrylic, treated polyester, woven using a reinforcing technique. This technique makes the material resistant to tearing and ripping. Ripstop is used outdoors for blinds, tents, or tented camps. Due to its strength ripstop canvas is also used to create canopy covers and tarpaulins. The square grid pattern is the most common weave pattern used in the ripstop fabric. It consists of thicker threads woven into the fabric at regular intervals, forming a grid-like structure. This grid pattern effectively stops tears from spreading, providing the fabric with its signature tear resistance.

Polyester ripstop fabric offers excellent water and UV resistance, making it a popular choice for outdoor applications exposed to the elements. It is also highly resistant to wrinkles, mildew, and abrasion.

Ripstop found its way into all sorts of gear, such as tents, backpacks, even parachutes – and the suits jumpers wore on the way down. Today, you can find ripstop materials all over, from jackets and pants to hammocks and hot air balloons. Just about anywhere that a tear would be bad, ripstop can help prevent the problem from getting worse. Look around and you’re likely to find ripstop materials in places you never imagined.
